The Australian Autumn colours are not as spectacular as in some other countries. This is due to the fact that our trees are mostly not deciduous, therefore they do not lose their leaves in the Autumn.
The Australian gum trees are extremely hardy and do not lose their leaves. Our winter months are very mild compared to countries in the northern hemisphere. Here in Western Australia the temperature seldom gets below zero degrees. If it does then it is usually only for a short period of time in the mornings.

Most of our colours in Autumn come from grape vines and a few imported trees. However one of the best places to see our autumn tones is at the Golden Valley Tree Park not far from Balingup. The Park covers 60 ha and has more than 3000 native trees as well as some exotic trees. There are over 1000 different species. In addition to the autumn colours, there are some of our native trees that shared their grey bark at this time of the year. This reveals their orange and pink trunk colours underneath.
